I don't know what vintage 5 is like but I've smelled the modern incarnation and it doesn't hold a candle to Dia. Lovely while it lasted, but I expected more.
The nose behind this fragrance is Jean-Claude Ellena. On first sniff, Dia's unmistakable French heritage shows in a tingle of fig and bergamot. There is such restraint in this perfume, allover, that I want to scream "Take off that mink coat!
I would have to see how much it costs, but I certainly would put it on my wish list.
Clean, sophisticated, the scent a grown woman would wear. It smells expensive (it should!) My skin turns their creations into something akin to Aqua Net hairspray, strong dryer sheets, or the aforementioned (yucky-smelling) soap, and for all the wonderful ingredients that go into them, they do not end up being something I would like to smell like (or smell) all day/night. Is it worth the cost of a full bottle? This phase leaves me unsatisfied, thinking I should have stuck to the cheaper and nicer smelling option. Ohh,Im very falling in love! It's a perfume that evokes images of purity, elegance and ease, but iike all great perfumes, Dia must be worn to be fully appreciated. Dia IS slightly soapy and somewhat old-fashioned, it opens with a blast of aldehydes that brings to mind many of the pre-1950 classics, but the rest of the composition is thoroughly modern.
